NPP - The Journey of a People's Movement

The National People’s Power (NPP), or Jathika Jana Balawegaya, is a broad political movement bringing together diverse political organizations, trade unions, professionals, academics, youth, women, civil society groups, and citizens from across Sri Lanka. Established in 2019 with a vision for fundamental political, economic, and social transformation, the NPP has grown into a nationwide political movement committed to creating a new political culture and building a just, democratic, prosperous, and dignified society.

A defining chapter in this journey came with the Presidential Election held on 21 September 2024, when the people of Sri Lanka entrusted the NPP with the presidency, electing Anura Kumara Dissanayake as President. The people overwhelmingly reaffirmed this mandate at the Parliamentary Election on 14 November 2024, where the NPP secured a historic two-thirds majority with 159 seats in Parliament to pursue its comprehensive programme of national transformation.

Today, the NPP leads the Government of Sri Lanka under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, carrying the responsibility entrusted to it by the people to transform the country through good governance, institutional reform, economic development, social justice, transparency, and accountability — building a nation where public institutions serve the people, corruption is confronted, the rule of law is upheld, and every citizen has the opportunity to live with dignity, security, and hope.

Rooted in the active participation of the people, the NPP continues to work towards a new political culture based on democracy, equality, social justice, integrity, and service to the public. From its inception in 2019 through the decisive mandates of 2024, the NPP remains steadfastly committed to building a stronger, more prosperous, democratic, peaceful, and just Sri Lanka where progress is shared by all.
